Please be informed that P&T Architects and Engineers Limited (P&T) and WilkinsonEyre have been awarded the architectural consultancy contract for the redevelopment of the current Pokfield Road Site into a new landmark campus hub.
The Development Complex at the Pokfield Road site will enable HKU to forge ahead as the 21st century’s university in Hong Kong through a new state-of-the-art campus hub with academic, cultural and sports facilities. The project comprises an academic building to house the Faculty of Business and Economics (Phase 1), a university guest house and a junior professoriate staff quarters (Phase 2), as well as an iconic teaching and learning complex (Phase 3). The existing space and facilities for sports will be expanded and upgraded and will be fully integrated into the complex.
Five architectural consultancy firms participated in the Design Competition in July. Their conceptual designs were presented at an exhibition at the University for voting by students, staff and alumni. These conceptual designs were also assessed by a jury panel comprising representatives of academia and students as well as external professionals, on functionality, sustainability and environmental friendliness, integration with the Main Campus and cost-effectiveness.
The team from P&T has won the tender to develop the proposed master planning concept further. The winning proposal demonstrated its creativity and uniqueness in a balanced relationship between the urban aspects of the site and its surroundings. P&T is an award-winning and top global design firm, with solid experience in carrying out institutional projects as well as many landmark buildings in Hong Kong and around the world.
The University will be working with the consultancy firm on the conceptual planning and specific requirements for the next stage of the building design. Construction is tentatively scheduled for commencement in early 2021, with a target completion for Phase 1 by the end of 2023.
