In view of the recent media reports regarding the Pokfield Campus development in Pok Fu Lam, the HKU spokesperson has the following response:
“The University of Hong Kong (“HKU”) places the utmost importance on the safety and quality of its campus construction projects. The safety and well-being of site workers, nearby residents, our students and staff, as well as the community, remain the University’s top priority.
HKU and the engaged professional consultants have been closely monitoring the construction works and progress of the Pokfield Campus development and following up with the project consultant and the Registered Contractor. HKU has also been maintaining close communications with nearby residents and proactively addressing their concerns. HKU also noted that regular site inspections were conducted by the project consultant and site memos were issued to the Registered Contractor for non-conformity on site. The project consultant has required the Registered Contractor to remedy defects, in compliance with the mechanism and procedures set out in the Code of Practice for Site Supervision issued by the Buildings Department.
Regarding the slope gradient of some of the temporary slopes exceeding the gradient as set in the approval plan, the sequence of foundation works not matching the approval drawings, and defects found on the concrete spraying, the Buildings Department and the Geotechnical Engineering Office under the Civil Engineering and Development Department had already carried out inspections to the worksite recently. No obvious danger to the site, construction works, and the surrounding buildings were noted. The Registered Contractor has been requested to carry out rectification works immediately.
The project team will continue to work closely with the relevant government departments, project consultants and Registered Contractors, to ensure that the construction works are carried out in compliance with the Buildings Ordinance, relevant regulations, approved plans, and construction safety and work quality standards.
HKU always welcomes comments and feedback from all stakeholders regarding the Pokfield Campus development. For enquiries, please email us at pcomplex@hku.hk or visit our Project Website (https://pokfield.hku.hk). “
