What is "HKU Cares"
HKU has a longstanding commitment to nurturing close ties with the local community, benefiting the neighbourhood through the development of the Pokfield Campus.

Launched in 2023 by the HKU Communications and Public Affairs Office, "HKU Cares" aspires to achieve the vision of "Connect, Inspire, and Empower" through community engagement. Beyond ‘HKU Cares’, HKU extends its commitment to the community through its ongoing Pokfield Campus development, a multipurpose hub for enhanced teaching, learning and living, by creating a sustainable, green campus to enhance the overall pedestrian environment.

“HKU Cares” Hosts Community Fun Day with Elderly

From October 2024 to January 2025, the ‘HKU Cares’ Student Sports Ambassador Programme returned for its second year as the University continues to serve the community throughout the development of the Pokfield Campus by promoting an active lifestyle for all ages.

In collaboration with Caritas Mok Cheung Sui Kun Community Centre at Pokfield Road in Kennedy Town, HKU students trained as Student Sports Ambassadors led tailored fitness classes and new sports sessions with senior citizens in the Kennedy Town neighbourhood, fostering healthy ageing and intergenerational inclusion. A Community Fun Day was held on 13 January 2025 to bring joy to the elderly through game booths of pickleball, flipball and cornhole.

“HKU Cares Social Innovation Challenge 2025”
Student Proposals Spark AI Creativity and Cross-Sector Partnerships

Taking innovation beyond campuses, HKU Cares partnered with Social Enterprise Summit (SES) to host the “HKU Cares Social Innovation Challenge 2025” from March to April 2025, bringing students together to drive positive impact in surrounding communities.

Featured with workshops, community visits, and sessions with locals, social workers and innovation leaders. Students visited NGOs in Aberdeen and Pokfulam to better understand challenges faced by the elderly and people with disabilities. On April 12, 2025, NGOs and volunteers from Kennedy Town shared uplifting stories of “link workers” partnering with seniors to enhance wellbeing, while student teams pitched their creative proposals in a competition—showcasing their creativity and collaboration.
